Project Overview:
This project involved the upgrade of an aging urban stormwater drainage system. The goal was to replace outdated concrete pipes with a more durable and efficient solution to handle increasing rainfall and prevent urban flooding. Approximately 19,780 meters of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) hollow-wall winding pipes were installed, with diameters up to DN1800mm .
Key Challenges:
High groundwater levels and deep trench excavations (up to 4 meters) posed significant challenges during installation .
Ensuring a leak-proof system in an area with soft soil conditions was critical to prevent soil erosion and system failure.
The project required a pipe material with excellent chemical resistance to withstand urban runoff.
HDPE Solution & Technical Highlights:
Pipe Type: HDPE Dual-Wall Corrugated Pipes (SN8 ring stiffness) were selected for their optimal balance of strength, flexibility, and flow capacity .
Superior Hydraulics: The smooth inner wall of HDPE pipes ensures minimal friction loss, allowing for greater flow capacity compared to traditional materials .
Robust Jointing: A combination of internal/external heat-shrink bands and external electrofusion belts was used to create strong, leak-free seals, guaranteeing the long-term integrity of the system .
Durability: HDPE’s exceptional resistance to corrosion and abrasion ensures a long service life, significantly reducing maintenance costs .
Results/Benefits:
The new HDPE drainage system successfully passed closure tests with leakage rates well below standard requirements. The project resulted in a highly efficient and reliable drainage network, effectively mitigating flood risks and ensuring minimal environmental impact
