Project Overview:
This project aimed to establish a dependable raw water supply pipeline from a river source to a remote industrial site. The 17.6km pipeline needed to traverse challenging terrain, including forests and areas with significant elevation changes (max. height difference of 81 meters) .
Key Challenges:
Navigating complex topography with varying soil conditions, including weathered sandstone and expansive soil .
Ensuring a continuous and safe water supply with a high degree of reliability, as the pipeline was a single line without a backup.
The remote location demanded a lightweight and easy-to-install pipe material to simplify logistics and construction.
HDPE Solution & Technical Highlights:
Pipe Type: HDPE Pressure Pipes (PE100, DR11) with a diameter of de315mm and a pressure rating of 1.6 MPa were deployed .
Leak-Free System: Pipes were joined using butt fusion welding, creating monolithic, leak-free connections that are as strong as the pipe itself .
Flexibility & Durability: HDPE’s flexibility allowed the pipeline to follow the natural contours of the land. Its exceptional resistance to corrosion and longevity (over 50 years) made it the ideal choice .
Precision Installation: The project followed strict procedures for trench preparation, sand bedding, and backfilling to protect the pipeline and ensure long-term stability .
Results/Benefits:
The project was completed successfully within three months, providing a reliable water supply of 4000 cubic meters per day. The HDPE pipeline’s performance demonstrated its suitability for critical infrastructure projects in demanding environments, offering outstanding reliability and low lifecycle costs
